Sunday’s race at Canalami Raceway began our tenth season here at the Kelowna Slot Car Club. Very fitting Lez is the champion in the first race of the tenth season just like the many times he has won in the previous years. Congrats Lez! Nice to see close racing with five different racers on the podium during the day.

In 2008 Quail Ridge Speedway was born, first it was known as a four lane plastic track called Lake Country Speedway until it transformed in 2012 to a three lane MDF routed wood track. On September 22 with the help of many helpers QRS moved to Rafael’s home in Kelowna’s Mission area. The move was successful and nobody hurt their back! Congrats to Team GVSCC from Vancouver Perry, Alwyn, Chris for winning the 1st Annual Tourist Trophy! Wow what a great weekend joining several slot car communities Edmonton, Calgary, Kelowna, and Vancouver together. The Group 5 Proxy Series has wound down and is all complete for another season. The Kelowna cars all finished very well and in the top 16 so will not need to qualify for entry into next season’s proxy. Ken introduced the Okanagan’s latest track to us at an open house this past weekend. Looks like a great track and the day was topped off with a BBQ! I have a feeling Predator Speedway will be a big hit with the group with many races in the future! Thanks Ken!
The Group 5 Proxy left Calgary and landed in our home town Kelowna at Quail Ridge Speedway. Six racers came to help marshal and race these speed demon rubber tired cars on race day. Earlier in the week Leo and Rob qualified the cars and a new record lap time of 5.516s was recorded by Camber’s BMW M1 car from Australia. Congrats to Chris Struwig “F1Fan” from Chilliwack for taking top spot, Cameron “Camber” from Australia taking second and Kelowna’s Rob “Cgyracer” finishing third. The Touring Car proxy ran round #10 in Portland Oregon at Al’s Rippin Ridin’ Raceway on April 5th, 2018. Radarek the frontrunner suffered a broken guide holder this round and could not finish the race but the car has been sent back to Edmonton for repairs to the guide holder.

Round 8 was ran March 25th at the Circuits of Silverado by the Rocky Mountain Racers RMR. Things looked promising for Leo as he was the top qualifier but it turned out his car was a bit of a handful and Leo’s #62 BMW M1 finished 15th. Rob’s #10 BMW M1 finished on the podium in 2nd place and Lez’s #54 BMW M1 finished a very decent 8th. Onward to Round #9 in Kelowna next! … More Group 5 Proxy Round #8 Calgary
