Classic Le Mans V – MID-BC – Kelowna Slot Car Club KSCC

The Kelowna Classic Le Mans Enduro was resurrected for the end of our 2024 -25 season and what a race it was! Three major breakdowns resulted in a lot of lost laps for three racers. Ken lost about 50 laps after the guide holder on his Fly GT40 chassis broke during a 4 minute heat in the 63 – 69 era race. Ken luckily was able to somewhat glue the guide holder together and re-enter the race. Matt lost a wheel in the 63 – 69 era race during a 12 minute heat and the repair took a bit of time costing Matt about 45 laps. The last major breakdown was John catching a piece of lead in his Fly Porsche 908 locking the front wheels causing the car to run sluggish until the problem was finally discovered causing John to lose about 7 laps in a 1963-69 era 4 minute heat .

Race #1 Early Era – The first race was 48 minutes total race time for each car in the 1963 – 69 era which had a majority of Ford GT40’s. Dariusz won with his NSR GT40 MKII with 358.01 laps holding a very slim under two lap lead over 2nd place Lez’s Lexan Fly Lola T70 with 356.35 laps. Rob’s Fly GT40 MKI in 3rd place finished 6 1/2 laps behind Dariusz with 351.46 laps. 4th Henry’s NSR Ford GT40 MKII 331.17 laps, 5th John’s Fly Porsche 908 321.6 laps, 6th Don K’s NSR GT40 MKIV 315.71 laps, 7th Henning’s NSR Ford GT40 MKIV 307.5 laps, 8th Matt’s Fly Ford GT40 MKI 284.86 laps, and 9th Ken’s Fly Ford GT40 MKII 243.81 laps. Dariusz had the fastest lap time of 7.276 seconds with his NSR GT40 MKII.

Race #2 Late Era – The second race was 48 minutes total race time for each car in the 1970 – 73 era however half the race was in the dark for 24 minutes requiring headlights in this era of car. Rob won this era with his Gulf Fly Porsche 917 LH with 357.2 laps. Lez’s Gunston Fly Lola T70 in 2nd 13.6 laps behind Rob with 343.6 laps. Dariusz’s Fly Porsche 917K in 3rd 4.74 laps behind Lez with 338.86 laps. 4th Matt’s Slot.it Matra 331.46 laps, 5th Ken’s Slot.it Ferrari 512M 325.88 laps, 6th John’s 3D Fly Porsche 917K 323.81 laps, 7th Henry’s Fly Porsche 917K 316.75 laps, 8th Don K’s Fly Lola T70 307.72 laps, and 9th Henning’s Fly Porsche 908 299.9 laps. Fastest lap in the 1970 – 73 era belonged to Rob with a 7.179 second lap time with his Fly Porsche 917 LH.

Overall – Rob was able to overcome the 6 1/2 lap lead Dariusz held after the first race with his secret weapon Fly Porsche 917 LH to finish in first place overall with 708.66 laps. Lez was also able to overtake Dariusz to finish in second with 699.95 laps while Dariusz finished in third three laps behind Lez with 696.87 laps. Henry in 4th very narrowly finished in front of 5th place John by 2 1/2 laps. 6th Don K 623.43 laps, 7th Matt 616.32 laps, 8th Henning 607.4 laps, and Ken in 9th with 569.69 laps.
